Lake Lanier Islands presents BBQ, Boots & Blues Festival

Tuesday, October 22nd, 2013

Can you smell what Lake Lanier Islands is cooking?? It’s BBQ like you’ve never seen before!! In partnership with and support of the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation, Lake Lanier Islands is very pleased and excited to be hosting the first annual BBQ, Boots & Blues Festival on November 3rd, 2013! Gather ’round as more than 20 local hand-picked restaurants show off their BBQ-cookin’ chops on the Peachtree Pointe event field and listen to some amazing musicians jamming out under the crisp blue sky all day long.

There’ll be tons of fun for all ages! In addition to the restaurants and live entertainment, we’ll have artist tents, a Sports Center with the Atlanta Braves and Hawks fan teams, a Kid’s Corner, and dealer car show will cover the event field with a “Cruise-In” featuring some really awesome classic cars. Do you guys remember former Atlanta Braves pitcher John Rocker? Ohhhh boy yes you do! He’ll be there signing autographs and taking pics for all you Braves fans out there! The really awesome news is that admission to the festival is FREE with purchase of a parking pass! BBQ tastings range from $0.50-$6.00. BBQ, Boots & Blues is a rain or shine event.

Sunset Cove Fall and Winter Hours of Operation

Monday, October 14th, 2013

Attention fellow food and Lake Lovers! Today (Columbus Day) is the last day that Sunset Cove Restaurant and Cafe will be open during the week until Magical Nights of Lights Starts.

Sunset Cove Restaurant and Cafe is one of the most popular lakeside eating destinations on Lake Lanier. There aren’t a ton of places on the Lake where you can just dock your boat and walk right up to get some grub, and Sunset Cove frequently offers live music in addition to giant fire pits and big screen tvs for optimal sports-watching. But as winter approaches and temperatures begin to drop, we find that people are much less likely to want margaritas and ice cream, and much more likely to want soup and hot chocolate.

That’s why we’re very happy to announce that Sunset Cove will be getting some modifications in the near future to combat the encroaching cold. This information is hot off the presses, so check back regularly here, on our Facebook page, and Twitter page for more details as they come out!

Lake Lanier Islands Fall Wine Cruise Series

Monday, October 7th, 2013

Sunday’s Wine Cruise was a great success, and we want to thank everyone who signed up and came out! It was a perfectly splendid day for cruising about on the Lake! The weather was balmy, the breeze was light, and the crew was gracious. If you’ve never been on one of our wine cruises, you’re really missing out; this event is one of the gems of the South, and a fantastically unique way to spend a pleasant Sunday afternoon. Let’s get to some pictures, shall we?

What a beautiful day!

Our first wine was a Charmeroy Brut Rose, which was bubbly and sweet and selected for its lovely pairing with our first course. In addition to a nice cheese and fruit platter (which included honeydew, cantaloupe, pineapple, cranberries, and cheddar, smoked gouda, and borsin cheese with garlic and herbs), our first course offered chipotle and chocolate ganache tartlets. The spicy richness of the ganache really brought out the sweetness of the wine, and many if our guests eagerly looked for seconds and thirds of the little tartlets.

Our second wine was a floral, oaky white wine: Arroyo Secco Chardonnay from Monteray. There are only 600 cases in the world of this creamy, buttery white with a citrus finish. Served with the Chardonnay, our guests enjoyed a tasty dish dreamed up by Chef Kevin Allen which consisted of a seared sea scallop, served chilled with Meyer lemon foam and garnished with a crispy fried mint leaf. The mint leaves had to be carefully placed on each pillow of lemon foam or they would essentially disintegrate due to delicacy.

Next up was the Stolpman Golden Point, a dry white from California which was a big, toasty blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Roussanne with a brown spice finish. Our guests enjoyed a light, refreshing butternut squash and mango couscous with roasted poblano and a lime vinaigrette. During the whole tasting, Demetrius, the wine rep for Prime Line Spirits, came around to each table to discuss the wines being poured and to answer any questions.

For our fourth wine, we brought out the first red of the afternoon: a bold, jammy Crush Farms Zinfandel with a peppery finish. Our guests were wild about the walnut and maple sausage brioche “Monte Cristo” with a tomato maple jam! This sweet and spicy treat enhanced the spices and berries lingering in the Zinfandel, and brought them to the forefront of the palette.

Next we brought out a second Crush Farms red wine, this time a very smooth, full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon. With this kind of wine you want a rich, heavy meat, and our Chef delivered a beautiful tray of lamb lollipops with lavender and blood orange gastrique. The lamb was tender, its flavor enhanced and was enhanced by the Cab quite marvelously.

Finally, as the Island Princess headed home, we brought out one last wine, a Sofa King Bueno. This bold wine was a spicy, full-bodied, and exciting blend of Syrah, Mourvèdre, petit Syrah, and Grenache. If you’re wondering why the vintners decided to call their wine “Sofa King Bueno,” just take a sip, and say it really fast. The Bueno was served with grilled shrimp skewers, seasoned with smoked ginger and coriander. The interesting combination of flavors brought out by the red reminded us slightly of Mediterranean or Indian cuisine, and certainly this dish was the talk of the ship until we docked again.

And what wine tasting cruise would be complete without a nice dessert to finish? Chef Kevin Allen personally brought around a charming tray of assorted tiny cheesecakes and macaroons, including various chocolates, vanilla, lemon, raspberry, mocha, and fan favorite pistachio. As usual, each of the wines was available for purchase after the cruise.

As guests disembarked, full of happy memories and chatting with new friends, we asked a few of them to tell us what they thought. Gordon said, “It’s one of the best kept secrets. The ambience was exceptional.” Marie added, “I think it was very nice, I’d definitely do it again and invite more friends.”

Well, folks, we’ve got one  wine cruise left unless we decide to extend the series, and that’s on October 27th. You tell us in the comments below, would you like to see an extension of our popular wine cruise series into late fall and early winter?

Lake Lanier Islands Fall Wine Cruise Series

Monday, September 16th, 2013

If you haven’t had a chance to come out to one of our incredible wine cruises, you are missing an opportunity both unique and exciting. Fortunately for you, we have two more cruises lined up for October 6th and 20th!

Guests will interact with winemakers and other knowledgeable wine industry insiders for a cruise aboard the Island Princess complete with wine samples and creatively conceived appetizers that pair with each wine. Every wine cruise is different, but in the past, we’ve had gorgonzola-stuffed strawberries, caramelized onion Consommé Boules with lemon crème fraîche (tiny french onion soup loaf bowls for you non-French-speakers), and lamb lollipops with raspberry gastrique, and so much more!

Our wine cruises have become immensely popular – we’ve seen birthdays, congratulations for new jobs and promotions, engagements and anniversaries. Big groups and small groups, girlfriends and bros, young couples and elderly couples, business associates and family reunions, everyone has a great time on our cruises! Read about one of our June cruises here!

Here’s what some of our guests said about their experience on the Island Princess:

“The weather wasn’t the best, but the crew really took care of us, and the food was to die for!” – Sarah F.

“It was my birthday, so my sorority sisters took me on the wine cruise. I’m used to box wine [laughing], so of course the wines were amazing! I’m kidding! No really, I think it was my favorite birthday so far, everyone was so nice!” – Kara S.

“My wife insisted we come out and try it. Don’t tell her, but I had a lot of fun.” – Howard T.

The Island Princess will set sail at 2pm from Harbor Landing, and dock again at 5pm. This unique opportunity to cruise beautiful Lake Lanier with friends and associates is really going to make for a special and fun Sunday in October. Come see the leaves changing colors while you taste fabulous wines from all over the world!

For individuals, the entry is $50, and for a couple, $90. All guests can order the wines they sampled at the conclusion of each cruise. To sign up, please call our concierge at (770) 945-8787.

Red, White, and Luau 4th of July Celebration!

Saturday, June 29th, 2013

The fourth of July is right around the corner and we could not be more excited!! The whole holiday weekend is going to be jam-packed with music, live entertainment, dancing, awesome interactive activities, fireworks, and of course, LanierWorld water slides and fun! If you’re looking for the details on what promises to be a fabulous weekend, you’ve come to the right place!

Let’s go over the actual holiDAY first, shall we?

First and foremost, on July 4th we are super excited that Lyndsey and Axel from Atlanta radio station Rock 100.5 will be doing a live broadcast at Sunset Cove from noon to 7pm. This is actually going to be really cool because Rock 100.5 is a fantastic radio station, and Lyndsey and Axel are both a lot of fun.

From 11-3pm, our Fun Patrol will be interacting with the kids all around LanierWorld, and let us say, this is extremely fun for the kiddos.

In addition to these cool events, we’ll have live entertainment at both Gianni’s noon to 8pm, the Fun Time Players will play some great dancing music from 3-8pm, Blair Crimmins and the HULAgans will play the Sunset Stage from 4-6pm, followed by the Geeks from 7-9pm.

But it’s not just LanierWorld that will be getting the live music treatment! Legacy Lodge will have live entertainment at the Pool Side Patio from 12:30-4:30, and BULLFROGS will have live music from 6:30-10:30pm. Lounge by the pool and enjoy some great tunes before heading over to BULLFROGS for a tasty dinner!

Finally, when the sky turns dark and everyones eyes have begun to drift skyward, Lake Lanier Islands will be pleased to present a huge fireworks display for your enjoyment and in celebration of our nation’s independence!

Friday, July 5th also promises to be a great day, with live entertainment at the Lodge Poolside Patio, Sunset Stage, Gianni’s, and BULLFROGS from 12:30-10:30pm and alternating throughout the day. The Fun Patrol will be out and about again from 11am-3pm, and the Fun Time Players will be playing from 3-8pm.

Additionally, Friday is Flip Flop Friday, presented by Marine Max at Sunset Cove! Ditch work and come out early for drink specials and DJ requests all night long!

The No Shoes Nation ticket giveaway will be sponsored by Miller and Kicks 101.5 at Sunset Cove, too! For every Miller product you purchase, we’ll drop your name in the bucket for a raffle to win tickets to the August 3rd No Shoes Nation Kenny Chesney concert in Atlanta at the Georgia Dome!

Also on Friday we’ll be featuring two Dive In Movies! “Free Willy,” a classic from the early 90s about a boy trying to help a killer whale get back to the ocean, will play at the WavePool at 8:30pm, and “Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron,” the tale of a courageous and defiant young horse in the Wild West, will play at Legacy Lodge.

Saturday, July 6th will be a typically enjoyable day at the Lake. Once again the Fun Patrol will be interacting with kids around the Family Fun Park from 11-3pm. Also, there will be live entertainment at Gianni’s, Legacy Lodge Poolside Patio, Sunset Stage, Boardwalk, Sunset Cafe, and BULLFROGS throughout the day beginning at noon. Our Saturdays are particularly awesome because we host Big Beach Parties on a weekly basis, so come out to Big Beach and see the Mike Veal Band from 5-9pm.

Sunday, July 7th should be excellent as well, as live music will entertain guests all over the park all day long beginning at noon.

And if you haven’t booked a plan for this holiday yet, we’ve got you covered! We are still running our GOTOFUN promo!!

From June 28-July 6, with rates starting at $149/night and INCLUDING 4 tickets to LanierWorld, this is a deal you DO NOT want to miss!!

It’s Time For Our Father’s Day Brunch!

Thursday, June 13th, 2013

Fathers, how do we love thee? Let us count the ways.

  1. You changed our diapers. That’s a biggie.
  2. You taught us how to say “Dada,” and then immediately started working on “Peek-a-Boo.”
  3. You picked us up when we skinned our knees, and helped us know that everything would be ok.
  4. You held our hand when we were too scared to step onto our first escalator.
  5. You helped us catch our first lightning bug, giving us our first glimpse of the wonders of the universe.
  6. You taught us how to ride our bike without training wheels. It was terrifying, and we were pretty sure the bike was trying to kill us, but your steady presence reassured us, and eventually we mastered it.
  7. You took us to our first baseball game, and caught us our first foul ball, instilling in us a never-dying, all-consuming love of the Atlanta Braves.
  8. You took us on fishing trips, and graciously baited the hook with the icky worm for us.
  9. When we were learning to swim, you stood in the deep end and encouraged us to jump into your waiting arms. We were certain our floaties and duck intertube would let us down, but we never doubted your strong hands as they reached up to meet us as we hurdled through the air.
  10. You patiently listened to us as we explained all the wonderful qualities of our first crush, and then sincerely offered to “visit” that crush when they made us cry.
  11. You attended all our little league football games and raced down the sideline as we careened down the field on our highlight-reel touchdown run.
  12. You helped us figure out those ridiculous math problems that began with “John has 28 bananas…” as if a person would ever walk around with 28 bananas.
  13. When we invited all our friends over to get ready for senior prom, you anxiously waited downstairs with the camera. And when our date showed up, nervous and sweaty-palmed, you tried not to look too intimidating as you told him you expected us home by curfew.
  14. On our graduation day, you told us you had cut some onions earlier that day, and that you couldn’t be more proud of us.
  15. On our wedding day, you smiled and told us how pretty we looked, and then you kissed us on the cheek and asked if we were ready.
  16. When we proudly pointed out our newborn son in the nursery, and you assured us he would grow up to be a great man like his father.
  17. When our toddlers were driving us insane, you offered to take them for the weekend. And even though we knew you’d feed them Chocolate Frosted Sugar Bombs, we were grateful to have a couple nights to ourselves.
  18. When our daughter discovered nail polish, you chatted about unicorns and fairies as she gave you the worst manicure you’ve ever seen. Bright neon pink with glitter really isn’t really your color, but we admire you for beaming at her amazing nail-painting skills.
  19. When it became difficult for you to run around with our kids, we enjoyed sitting on the rockers on the front porch with you, eating a grapefruit and sipping coffee, reminiscing about our own childhood.
  20. Mostly we love you because you helped make us who we are today.
So here’s to you, dad! Happy Father’s Day!!

Have You Heard About Our Wine Cruises?

Monday, June 3rd, 2013

Picture it: you’re on a yacht cruising around Lake Lanier with your best friends (or your significant other, or your parents, or yourself, you know whoever), and you’re at a elegantly set table on the top deck, with a light breeze in your hair. The sky is a beautiful cobalt blue and white fluffy clouds line up on the horizon. A waitress appears by your side holding a platter of Gorgonzola stuffed strawberries.

And then a waiter appears on your other side and pours you a fizzy glass of Lamarca – a Prosecco from Italy. Can life get better? Actually it can. Because on our wine cruises, you get to taste six wines – each paired with a gourmet specialty! In addition to fresh strawberries, our first course included grapes, blueberries, dates, assorted nuts, cheddar, smoked Gouda, Swiss, and Pepperjack cheeses.

After guests were nice and settled, our waiters and waitresses cleared plates and began the next course: Lamb Lollypops with a raspberry gastrique sauce. Really they should have just called it Lamb Pops with Awesome Sauce. Interestingly, the raspberry gastrique really pulled out the fruitiness of the traditionally earthy, peppery Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand.

Our third course consisted of incredibly delicious smoked salmon mousse crostini, which paired very nicely with a buttery Chardonnay from William Hill in the Napa Valley.

A bit of an interesting side note here – we experienced a Lake Lanier Islands first when a small group of our guests were a bit late and watched the Island Princess pull away from the dock. Never fearing a small crisis, our Harbor Master acted quickly and masterminded a mid-lake rendezvous with the Princess that even Michael Bay would be impressed by! Our tardy guests were then seated and served and the cruise continued as smoothly as if they had been aboard the whole time. Wow!

Fourth up was a sweet and fruity Rose from Spain: Las Rocas, which was served with a rather intimidating but delectable dish of barbecued Langoustines. Guests were hesitant at first, because really, how in the world do you eat these things? But with some instruction from our crew it quickly became one of the favorites. The spicy skewers really enhanced the sweetness of the Rose!

For our fifth course, our wonderful Chef Melody personally glazed the caramelized onion Consommé Boules with lemon crème fraîche. Our blogger doesn’t know how to pronounce it, so it’s obviously delicious! Essentially, they were mini French Onion Soup bowls, and they were so good.

These were paired with a dry Mac Murray Pinot Noir from the Russian River Sonoma Country.

We polished off the night with our sixth and final course: spiced duck confit served on crispy thin flatbread. The duck was pleasantly flavorful, and happily lacked that gamey toughness that sometimes happens with duck courses. Our chefs know their way around a duck confit!

We served an Alamos Malbec from the Mendoza region of Argentina with this dish, and this bold and spicy red was a great way to finish off the evening.

As we cruised back into Harbor Landing, guests were treated to trays of dessert featuring mini éclair, passion fruit cream puffs, truffles, macaroons, pralines, and assorted fresh berries.

Even with the storms growing in the distance, it was a perfect afternoon with great food and wine, and family and friends! We celebrated three birthdays, and enjoyed a very pleasant and smooth cruise. We hope to see you on our next Wine Cruise, on June 30!

Special thanks to our crew and kitchen staff who did an AMAZING job!! Way to go guys!!!
