Lake Lanier Islands Fall Wine Cruise Series

Monday, September 16th, 2013

If you haven’t had a chance to come out to one of our incredible wine cruises, you are missing an opportunity both unique and exciting. Fortunately for you, we have two more cruises lined up for October 6th and 20th!

Guests will interact with winemakers and other knowledgeable wine industry insiders for a cruise aboard the Island Princess complete with wine samples and creatively conceived appetizers that pair with each wine. Every wine cruise is different, but in the past, we’ve had gorgonzola-stuffed strawberries, caramelized onion Consommé Boules with lemon crème fraîche (tiny french onion soup loaf bowls for you non-French-speakers), and lamb lollipops with raspberry gastrique, and so much more!

Our wine cruises have become immensely popular – we’ve seen birthdays, congratulations for new jobs and promotions, engagements and anniversaries. Big groups and small groups, girlfriends and bros, young couples and elderly couples, business associates and family reunions, everyone has a great time on our cruises! Read about one of our June cruises here!

Here’s what some of our guests said about their experience on the Island Princess:

“The weather wasn’t the best, but the crew really took care of us, and the food was to die for!” – Sarah F.

“It was my birthday, so my sorority sisters took me on the wine cruise. I’m used to box wine [laughing], so of course the wines were amazing! I’m kidding! No really, I think it was my favorite birthday so far, everyone was so nice!” – Kara S.

“My wife insisted we come out and try it. Don’t tell her, but I had a lot of fun.” – Howard T.

The Island Princess will set sail at 2pm from Harbor Landing, and dock again at 5pm. This unique opportunity to cruise beautiful Lake Lanier with friends and associates is really going to make for a special and fun Sunday in October. Come see the leaves changing colors while you taste fabulous wines from all over the world!

For individuals, the entry is $50, and for a couple, $90. All guests can order the wines they sampled at the conclusion of each cruise. To sign up, please call our concierge at (770) 945-8787.

Adam Sandler and Company Wrap Up The Familymoon at Lake Lanier Islands Resort

Wednesday, August 21st, 2013

This summer we had the good fortune to host the cast and crew of The Familymoon, Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore’s new family romantic comedy. They filmed on location at the Summer House, the wave pool at LanierWorld and even had an entire set on Pine Island. We were excited to visit the set on their last day, where they were shooting an African day-care scene with warthogs, hedgehogs, bunnies, a lemur, a baby ostrich, and even a lion cub! During each take, the warthogs would squeal, the ostrich would flap his little wings, and  the lion would growl his irritation at being woken up from his nap (hey, just like a human toddler!). The bunnies and hedgehogs were pretty much content to just chill with the kids.

Sandler came in and out of the room frequently to direct the kids, or change an angle, or just watch one of the takes in person. While he was busy finishing up the last few scenes, we got a chance to talk to Rob Frank, the location manager, about the movie and about the Make-A-Wish Foundation, an organization Sandler is involved with.

Coming to theaters next year, The Familymoon is about a widowed father (Sandler) with 3 daughters and a widowed mother (Barrymore) with 2 sons who meet on a spectacularly disastrous blind date at Hooters. Of course they dislike each other at first, but naturally they win a trip to Africa and end up being forced to share a room. In the course of the movie, Sandler teaches Barrymore’s boys about sports and other manly pursuits, and Barrymore cleans up the girls from tomboys with rats’ nests haircuts to lovely young women.

The whole cast really enjoyed filming in Georgia, which is quickly becoming a favorite of many producers due to low costs associated with new film incentives introduced by the state legislature in 2008. In addition to the time they spent here at the resort, much of the cast also visited popular Atlanta tourist sites like the Georgia Aquarium and the Coca-Cola Museum. At the resort, they had a blast checking out all of our activities – fishing, boating, Wake The Lake Cable Park, horseback riding at the Stables, and especially LanierWorld, where they filmed a scene in the Wavepool. They were extra impressed with Beth Pedaggi, our Equestrian Center manager. “Beth was a superstar,” said Frank, “we love her!” Then he made sure to give a shout out to Fred the Horse.

Next Frank talked to us about Sandler’s charity. On every location where it’s an option, Sandler makes a point to contact the local Make-A-Wish Foundation chapter and request to grant a wish. This time he granted wishes to multiple kids with life-threatening diseases. For starters, he put them smack dab in the middle of a baseball scene in the movie. And if that wasn’t exciting enough, he paid for an entire week’s worth of adventures and fun times for the guys – LanierWorld, fishing, Lego Land, Medieval Times, the Georgia Aquarium, and horseback riding! They had a fantastic time, and Make-A-Wish knows that wishes make life better for kids with life-threatening medical conditions. In addition, they believe whole-heartedly that wishes are more than just a nice thing; they are far more than gifts, or singular events in time. Wishes impact everyone involved – wish kids, volunteers, donors, sponsors, medical professionals and communities. The impact varies. For wish kids, just the act of making their wish come true can give them the courage to comply with their medical treatments. Parents might finally feel like they can be optimistic. And still others might realize all they have to offer the world through volunteer work or philanthropy. –from Make A Wish

Sandler’s Wish-kids got to spend the whole day on set on the last day, and then they got to be his special guests at a luau that night. We’re just glad we got to be a part of it.

The Familymoon comes out in May of 2014, production permitting, and we encourage everyone to go see it, and see if you can spot the places you’ve been at Lake Lanier Islands!

The Last Full Week Of Summer At LanierWorld

Friday, August 9th, 2013

Can you believe it’s already August?? We can’t either! This week was the last full week of LanierWorld being open, although it will continue to be open on weekends. Sunset Cove and Gianni’s will also continue to operate on a daily basis until Labor Day. There’s still plenty to do at the Lake even though LanierWorld is nearing the end of its Summer heyday.

For example, try golfing on one of our championship courses designed by Billy Fuller, the man who invented “Billy Bunkers,” used in over 500 courses nationwide!  The Legacy on Lanier Golf Club represents a return to the Golden Era of Golf – a period from the early to mid 1900’s when designers created some of the most storied courses in the world. An unrivaled golf experience, the layout traverses a natural setting with twelve scenic holes on the water. Legacy on Lanier Golf Club offers tactical challenges for the avid golfer while not proving too daunting for the casual golfer. Legacy on Lanier Golf Club includes a fully stocked golf shop, new state of the art MiniVerde Bermuda Greens, and zoysia lined “Billy Bunkers,” an innovative Bunker design developed by Fuller during his tenure at Augusta National Golf Club. For scratch golfers and high handicappers alike, the Lake Lanier Golf Club offers a challenging, aesthetically pleasing lakeside golf experience. There’s not a lot more relaxing in life than going golfing in the Fall when the leaves are changing in North Georgia.

Another great outdoor activity to take advantage of this Fall is horseback riding. Saddle up for the ride of your life at Lake Lanier Islands Equestrian Center. Gentle horses are ready to take you through a set of scenic trails along the shores of Lake Lanier Islands. Our Stable guides are some of the friendliest in the Southeast, and you will not be disappointed in their knowledge and professionalism. Older kids and adults can enjoy a 45-minute ride along the shores of Lake Lanier Islands, which departs every hour on the hour. Younger kids can go on a 30-minute ride, suitable for children two years of age and up weighing less than 80 pounds. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

If horses and golfing don’t quite feel right for you, check out our rustic campgrounds! The Campgrounds at Lake Lanier Islands Resort and Shoal Creek are just the place to enjoy the serenity and natural beauty of Lake Lanier Islands. These campgrounds offer an idyllic rustic destination for adventurers who yearn to sleep under the star-filled skies of Georgia, with the moon overhead and the sound of the lake as a soundtrack. Spacious and scenic, the sites are ideal for RV’s and tents. During the day, guests have easy access to all the excitement of Lake Lanier Islands Resort, including LanierWorld waterpark, award-winning golf facilities, rejuvenating spa treatments, the equestrian center, zip line canopy tours and more.Boat ramps are also available at all of our campgrounds.

A fourth fantastic option is our Canopy Zip Line Tours. Soar through the Georgia skies on one of Lake Lanier Islands canopy tours’ zipline adventures! There are 6 tour types available depending on the size of your group and the amount of awesome you feel like you can handle in one day. Try the PineIsle Tour and glide along several 1000+ ft lines, race a buddy on a 1,500ft zip track, and naturally, see some spectacular views of the Lake and the Islands! Check out the Legacy Nights Tour for some adventurous excitement. Zip through the trees and over the lake by night in the most exciting option of all our Lake Lanier Islands outdoor tours! Throughout your tour you will travel by moonlight, headlamps, and lanterns on a series of cleverly constructed zip lines, sky bridges, and platforms up to 70 feet in the treetops. Or, if you think you can handle it, go for the Full Day of Zipping Package! This package includes 30 incredible ziplines with incredible views, six sky bridges where you can test your mettle and conquer the trees, entrance to the resort, and lunch at Bullfrogs! The Canopy Tours are one of the favorites here at the Lake, and we are positive you’ll be talking about this one to your friends for months, and they’ll be asking you when the next trip will be!

So don’t be sad that Summer is coming to an end! There’s still plenty of fun to be had at Lake Lanier Islands! We can’t wait to see you!

The 2013 Aquapalooza Olympic Games

Friday, August 2nd, 2013

It was an epic year for the Aquapalooza Olympic Games, with well over 50 participants young and old! Held at Big Beach just after lunch time, the Aquapalooza staff made sure the teams were even and began doling out identifying handkerchiefs.

Kicking off round one, the Dizzy Izzy: a relay race not for the faint of heart, or balance. Contenders needed to spin around the bat three times before sprinting down to a cone and back to tag the next person in line.

Invariably, the adults had a tougher time of it than the kids. We think the slanted beach had something to do with that…

Round Two: Teams send one player at a time with a tiny shovel full of water down the beach to fill up a bucket until time ran out. The team with the most water in their bucket would be declared the winners!

Orange Team won the Bucket Run! They were really excited!

The third round was the classic Water Balloon Toss. Proceed to party:

After some minor controversy, Red Team was declared the winner!

For round four, teams were asked to sit in a line and pass flour by the handful over their shoulders, down the line, and into a bucket. This event was by far the messiest, and probably also the most fun.

While waiting for the buckets to be judged, some of the contenders needed a little help getting the flour cleaned off.

And finally, Black Team was declared victorious! Not that these kids cared:

After a quick wash in the lake to get the rest of the flour off, it was time for the Final Round: the Blindfolded Kayak Race!

And Red Team won the Kayak Race!! Interestingly, there was a 3-way tie for first place after the last event, so, after a quick consultation with team captains, a final tie-breaker round was announced. 3 Kayaks, across the lake and back, winner takes all. IT. WAS. EPIC.

Red Team had already proved its finesse in the Blindfolded Kayak Race, and true to form, they won the speed race as well. Therefore it is with great honor and pride that we announce the Gold Medalists in the 2013 Aquapalooza Olympic Games: RED TEAM!!! Congratulations!! And thank you to everyone who participated! We can hardly wait for next year – better start training!
